Finally, - following feverish activity in the last weeks - we would like to raise the curtain and give you a preview of UNERHÖRT! Music Film Festival from December 3-6, 2009.
The programme has been finalized. Again we succeeded in assembling a wonderful mixture of treasures buried in music film history as well as new productions from established and emerging filmmakers.
Before going online with the complete programme we would like to present a couple of highlights to you.
Moreover, we would like to draw your attention to the 1st UNERHÖRT! Music Film Conference which will be held alongside the festival on December 4, 2009.
Curtain up for UNERHÖRT! 2009!
1.) Music and Films for Both Sides of the Brain – Selected Preview
All in all we will show 63 films this year; thereof 22 films entering the competition for Best Musicfilm and 15 films competing for the NEW TALENTS prize.
The films are reflecting the variety of music films, taking the audience on a journey across the globe: from Africa to New Zealand, from Hamburg to Kinshasa. Music genres range from classical music to electro punk; there will be documentaries, feature and short films, music videos focussing on topics like “20 Years Fall of the Berlin Wall” and “Africa” (WM 2010…!) - among many others.
The festival kicks off on December 3 with the Hamburg premiere of…
Dem kühlen Morgen entgegen – Ein Film über das Leben von Schostakowitsch
(Into the Cold Dawn – A Film about the Life of Shostakovich)
Oliver Becker, Katharina Bruner / D 2008 / 90 min / (New) Classical Music
This film is a didactic play about the ratio of art and power in a dictatorship and a genre mix of documentary, feature and animated film. Armin Müller-Stahl is the director, who is finishing a film about “Stalin’s composers”. A kaleidoscope of archive pictures, film clips of Soviet cinema, footage in the cutting room and animated clips of the pivotal moments of Shostakovich’s life. The title of the film quotes a song of the musician, the first melody ever heard in space, sung by Juri Gagarin in 1961.
A special treat regarding „20 Years Fall of the Berlin Wall“…
12 DEFA-Disco Filme
Several directors / DDR 1975-85 / 4-10 min / pop, rock, jazz-
In the 70s and 80s the DEFA-Studio for documentaries produced a special genre, the so-called Disco-Films. These films were music clips, art film shorts or short documentaries and were screened not only as an interlude in the movie theatres but also directly in the discotheques.
On the topic Global Hip Hop premiering in Hamburg…
Tribu
Jim Libiran / PHIL 2007 / 95min / feature film, Hip Hop Global

Gangs and their street life in the slums of Tondo, Manila: rhymes, fights, gunfights, sex and drugs along the lines of their american Gangster Rap idols. Authentic underground cinema, shot only with real-life gang members.
Off to New Zealand to meet the Topp sisters…
The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls
Leanne Pooley / NZ 2009 / 84 min / Country, Comedy, GLBTI
The lesbian Topp twins are New Zealand’s well-loved musical and comic duo with their own primetime TV Series. Stars who – nevertheless - always have been politically active. Energetic, gifted, hilarious.
Running for the NEW TALENTS prize….
Dirty Princess - mit brennenden Höschen gegen das Parfüm des Kapitals
Thomas Lauterbach / D 2008 / 70 min / electro punk, music business & independent lifestyle
Dirty Princess, an electro punk trio from Madrid. Two sexy front ladies presenting their „x-rated“ concept of life on stage. But it is never easy to escape a middle class background…
From Hamburg …
Station 17: Neu
Eike Swoboda / D 2009 / 91 min / indie rock, music as therapy
“Station 17” (= ward 17) is a band, founded 20 years ago by patients of a ward. A new generation is taking over and starts a new cooperative project: “Goldstein Variations”. The film shows how the musicians are recording a new song every 2 days, together with popular bands / musicians.
For Reggae fans….
Rocksteady – The Roots of Reggae
Stascha Bader / CH/CAN 2009 / 90 min / Reggae

Today, everybody knows Reggae and its superstar Bob Marley. But the story of the founders of Reggae has never been told. Forty years later they are reuniting for the first time to record their old hits on an album and to tell their story. Exquisitely shooted and sleekly cut. Deep.
