This film is a didactic play about the ratio of art and power in a dictatorship and a genre mix of documentary, feature and animated film. Armin Mueller-Stahl is the director, who is finishing a film about “ Stalin’s composers”. A kaleidoscope of archive pictures, film clips of Soviet cinema, footage in the cutting room and animated clips to the pivotal moments of Shostakovitch’s life.
