The film is a portrait of the most influential German jazz musician Albert Mangelsdorff in reduced, graphic black-and-white pictures. He explains the stages of his career as a musician and his work ethic. Mangelsdorff, born in ’28, had to wrest his love for Jazz from the Nazis, also the ones in his head. He explains among other things the importance of practice...Furthermore he performs improvisation on the trombone, hunched over his instrument like a character from a silent movie, charming different sounds out of it at the same time. Virtuosic in the best sense!
