20. UNERHÖRT! Music Film Festival 2026 in Hamburg.

NEXT EVENT on April 17, 2026:

20 Years of UNERHÖRT! Hamburg Music Film Festival – 100 Years of MILES DAVIS!

A warm-up for the 20th anniversary of UNERHÖRT!

To kick off our 20th anniversary year, UNERHÖRT! is dedicating an entire day at the Metropolis Kino to the visionary trumpeter Miles Davis. Through three selected films, we explore the “sound of a lifetime” – from the sonic sophistication of cool jazz to the electrifying groove of his later years.

The day will feature a special guest speaker: Award-winning Hamburg-based cultural journalist Stefan Hentz will present his brand-new Reclam biography and guide us through the key stages of Davis’s aesthetic.

But music isn’t just something to be seen – it’s something to be felt: The Rückert Hughes Popple Trio and the DJ Round Table bring jazz live from the screen straight to the cinema bar. An evening that balances intellectual depth with pure danceability.

COOL – A Miles Davis Jazz Film Day | 17 April Metropolis Kino

On May 26, Miles Davis (1926–1991) would have turned 100. He was one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, a man of many transformations who took pride in having fundamentally reinvented jazz on multiple occasions: From bebop to the sonic sophistication of cool jazz, from the earthy passion of hard bop to the iridescence of modal jazz, from the magnetism of the swinging beat to the groove, to the trance of electronic dance music.

He hasn’t released an album in years. But then, in 1980, rumors begin to circulate that he has recorded new tracks. Music journalist Dave Braden senses a major story and is determined to secure an interview with Davis. Their encounter takes a dramatic turn…

But Florence is married to Simon Carala, an older arms dealer, at whose company Tavernier holds a senior position. Florence and Julien Tavernier plan to eliminate him. To this end, Tavernier has devised a nearly perfect murder plot…

Jeanne Moreau became a star thanks to this film, and for Louis Malle, it marked his breakthrough. Elevator to the Gallows is considered a pioneer of the Nouvelle Vague.
