And Me, I’m Dancing Too
[Man Khod, Man Ham Miraghsam]

by Mohammad Valizadegan

Dance and music is freedom.
But not for Iranian women.

Mohammad Valizadegan | Iran, Germany, Czech Republic | 2023 | 20′ | OmeU

Rhythmically and fluently Saba’s body moves to the music. She lives for dance, through it she expresses herself – but in her country she cannot do this freely. A cinematic dance between documentary and fiction, and a moving portrait of a generation of young Iranians who are constrained by the rigid rules of the Islamic Republic. When Saba rebels in a poetic act of defiance, the boundaries between fiction and reality finally dissolve.
