Italo Disco – The sparkling Sound of the 80s

by Alessandro Melazzini

The sound of an era –
Often described, not always understood

Alessandro Melazzini | Italy, Germany | 2021 | 62′ | OV (german subtitles)

The film uses audiovisual means to write the story of a musical style that dominated the world in the cybernetic decade of the 80s – without it really noticing.

Accompanied by the stars and pioneers of the time and guided by carefully prepared archive material, we are immersed in a genre that was not just dance music, but a very special aesthetic, social phenomenon and economy – and a permanent tightrope walk between trash and genius, sensuality and swagger.

Here we come to understand its genesis and development – and grasp how forward-looking this interplay of synthetic sounds, sometimes rather bizarre English lyrics, addictive electronic beats and visionary video clips was.

With Sabrina (Salerno), the La Bionda brothers, Roberto Zanetti, Johnson Righeira, Linda Jo Rizzo, Pierluigi Giombino and many more.
